Every year we celebrate the new year by participating in fun traditions. The New York City Times Square Ball Drop has been a huge tradition since 1907. Many other states drop different items for the new year such as giant cheese in Wisconsin, or a big music note in Nashville. When the ball drops at midnight, people will kiss their loved ones. Most people also make a resolution or goal for themselves during the new year, which dates back as far as 4,000 years ago. In Denmark, people smash plates of their family and friends on their doorstep. In the morning, whoever has the most shards of their plates will have good luck for the year. The newest tradition is eating twelve grapes, one for each stroke of midnight. This will guarantee you good luck in the new year, unless you don't finish them all which will lead to misfortune. If you keep doors and windows open it will take out the old year and let in the new year. Whatever traditions you partake in have a happy new year.
