The Seton Catholic High School sophomore class held a middle school dance on the evening of April 19, 2024. The class held this dance as a fundraiser for future events for the high school. They successfully sold 50 tickets for the dance making almost $800. The theme of the evening was ‘Spring Has Sprung.’ The gym was decorated with floral arrangements on the tables and adorned with gold butterflies, adding more to the spring ambience. The students danced the night away to music and even had a conga line during ‘Single Ladies’ by Beyonce. There were also snacks served such as chocolate covered strawberries, homemade cookie assortments, chips, and beverages to drink.

Our SCHS teachers Mrs. Evicks and Mrs. Scherschel were in charge of the dance, creating an enjoyable night for the middle schoolers. “I really enjoyed seeing the students dance together. It was great seeing my daughter having a great time as well,” says Mrs. Scherschel. From the input from the students, it seems they had a great time! “I loved dancing and hanging out with my friends” said Laila White. “I liked the conga line we did and being with my friends.” said Colin Murray. We are excited to see more dances in next school year.

I talked to Mr. Elstro and he said, "The "Jesus take the Wheel" project is going well. In fact, Jesus took the Wheel and what a wild ride it has been. We launched this project at the worst time, during Christmas Break. But we prayed for discernment, direction and success for a transportation issue that has plagued us for years. We asked, and Jesus answered. We wanted three 12 passenger vans. In God's wisdom,  He guided us to a solution that provided a way to keep our students much safer than a van and we now have two mini buses. Amazing! Kudos to the student council, Seton Home & School and all the students and parishioners that are helping us as we are bringing the project to a close."

I hope that future Seton students will be able to enjoy and appreciate the hard work the school has poured into getting these buses and students will be able to use them for years to come.

It is the beginning of May and you know what that means, it's time for Cinco de Mayo! For those who do not know, Cinco de Mayo is a holiday celebrated based off Mexican culture on the fifth of May. The day celebrates the date of the Mexican army's victory over France at the Battle of Puebla during the Franco-Mexican War. Although this is a minor holiday in Mexico, the United States celebrates Cinco de Mayo as a way to commemorate Mexican culture and heritage.

Traditions

In Mexico: To celebrate this holiday they have military parades, recreations of the Battle of Pueblas, and other festive festive events. Many Mexicans, however, view May 5 as any other day and it is not a federal holiday.

In the United States: We celebrate with parades, parties, mariachi music, Mexican folk dancing, and traditional foods; this includes tacos and mole poblano. The largest festivals are held in Los Angeles, Chicago, and Houston.

Ways to celebrate while being respectful

  1. Share the real story

  2. Support Mexican businesses

  3. Support Mexican arts and museums

  4. Eat, Eat, Eat!

This Cinco de Mayo, celebrate with family and friends while respecting Mexican culture. Eat and enjoy their culture! Have fun!
