PRE- WORLD SERIES

After knocking off the ‘Defending World Series Champs’, the Texas Rangers are looking for their first World Series in their franchise’s history. After back to back ‘League Championships’ going 7 games, the two exhausted surviving Diamondbacks and Rangers are preparing for a ‘battle out west’. The two teams have never faced each other in a World Series, in fact, the Rangers are only appearing in the World Series for their third time in franchise history!

WORLD SERIES

The Rangers have won their first World Series in Franchise History! In their 63-year franchise history, the Rangers have finally done it! The historic 11-0 away winning streak in the postseason was also remarkable! Oddly enough, there is definitely a bright side to both World Series teams, even the NL Pennant Champs, the Arizona Diamondbacks. While the Rangers were obviously the most successful team this year, the D-Backs have a young team that made strides this year and will definitely be back next year. I think just about everybody would tend to agree that this postseason was exciting, since a team other than the usual Dodgers, Yankees, or Astros, weren't in it. This was also an exciting World Series since the two pennant champs played different styles of baseball. Both squads played more of the get-on-base and steal-a-base mentality offensively, and pitch well and play-solid defensively mentality on the other side of the ball. All in all, congrats to the Texas Rangers for winning their first World Series ever!

Game 1: Diamondbacks 5 - Rangers 6

Game 2: Diamondbacks 9 - Rangers 1

Game 3: Rangers 3 - Diamondbacks 1

Game 4: Rangers 11 - Diamondbacks 7

Game 5: Rangers 5 - Diamondbacks 0

On October 7, 2023, thousands of rockets were fired on Israeli towns by militants from Gaza. Soon after, the militants broke through the the bordering fence between the two countries and opened fire on the towns. They traveled deep into the Israeli territory, where they killed over 1400 civilians and kidnapped over 200 hostages. Following this tragic attack, Israel responded by declaring war on Hamas and Gaza with “Operation Swords of Iron”. Basic supplies, such as fuel and water, have been blocked to Gaza by Israel. As Israel tightens its hold on the Gaza territory, warnings are circulating that people are at risk of starvation. The territory of Gaza has around 2 million inhabitants with a 140 square-mile radius, making it one of the most densely populated places in the world. What happens next, we do not know, but it is thought that Israel is readying a ground operation that risks both being prolonged and bloody. The defense minister of Israel has spoken saying the military is preparing for a “multilateral operation” on Hamas from the “air, ground, and sea,” with the goal of annihilating the militant group. Israel announced it was “expanding ground operations” on the Gaza Strip last Friday. It launched, allegedly, the heaviest airstrikes yet and entered the enclave. The scale of this operation is still not yet clear. We pray that this conflict will resolve quickly, hoping for peace for Israel and Gaza.

The band and choir's first performance of the year was at this year's 4th Street Fair. All students spent the first few months of the school year preparing for the fair. The choir took their class days practicing the National Anthem to open the fair and a song called Glory Glory to perform after the band. In between the National Anthem and Glory Glory, the band performed 8 songs. These songs include Louie Louie, The Lion Sleeps Tonight, I Get Around, Fun Fun Fun, Smoke on the Water, Proud Mary, Wipe Out, and our Seton Catholic School Fight Song. The concert went well even if some of the members thought they messed up. I enjoyed watching the band and choir perform and hearing their continued improvement.
