Mother's Day Luncheon

The Mother's Day Luncheon happened Monday, May 13. All the seniors and their moms went to the Old Richmond Inn on the corner down the street from the school. They all wore their Sunday best and dined the best as well. While they were their they got the choice between Chicken Alfredo, a Cheeseburger, or Ham, along with a Chicken Caesar Salad. The student council representatives went to the front before the lunch and said a few words. They talked about how they are thankful for their mothers and what they do for the seniors. They thanked everyone involved that set up this luncheon, then gave another thank you to the mothers. Student council members included Mary Daoud, Sophia Coyner, Diego Julian, and Malik Walker.

After this Father Sengole led them all in prayer, then the wait for the food began. While they were waiting conversations and laughter filled the room from the different tables filled with kids and their mothers. Bella Diehl said that she really liked eating with her mom and the conversations that they had. Mekenna McDonald said that having lunch with her mom and getting her out of work felt nice and relaxing. Robert said that he really liked eating the food and talking with the people at his table. A big thanks to the mothers from the senior class along with everyone that was involved with setting this lunch up!

Indy 500

The Indy 500 is happening Sunday, May 26, 2024. This is a 500 mile race is an annual race that is driven by IndyCar and is held at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway in Speedway, Indiana. This race has been happening since 1911 and is 200 laps or 500 miles long. The driver favored to win this year is Alex Palou, who was second in 2021 and fourth last year. This year's ticket prices are a low of $55 and an average of $111, so make sure to get tickets fast. Some facts about the Indianapolis Motor Speedway are that some of the biggest names in motorsport have competed there such as Mario Andretti and AJ Foyt. Tune in for all of the excitement and the greatest spectacle in motor racing.

Pentecost

Pentecost literally means fifty, and is celebrated fifty days after the Easter. It commemorates the descent of the Holy Spirit upon Mary, mother of Jesus and the Apostles of Jesus while they were in Jerusalem, as described in the Acts of the Apostles.  At Pentecost, disparate peoples of various languages and cultures found a common voice through the Holy Spirit. Traditional interpretation holds that the Descent of the Holy Spirit took place in the Upper Room. This Upper Room was the location of the Last Supper and the institution of Holy Communion also. Red is the traditional color worn during this celebration. It symbolizes joy and the fire of the Holy Spirit. Priests wear red vestments, and in modern times, the custom has extended to the lay people of the parish wearing red clothing in celebration as well. Red banners are often hung from walls or ceilings to symbolize the blowing of the “mighty wind” and the free movement of the Spirit.
